If you are unable to attend one of the residential schools Simon teaches in conjunction with Far Bank and Fly Water Travel, or simply just want a private lesson with him you've come to the right place. Whether you are a complete novice, stepping tentatively into this marvellous world for the first time, someone with a good base, but with a few wrinkles to iron out, or a competent fly fisher who wants to learn a new fly casting style, or fishing technique, we have a solution for you.
Maybe you are thinking about chasing a different species in a new destination, and want to be prepared with a lesson on the gear and casting/fishing styles used there, or perhaps you are an experienced fly fisher who wants to get to the highest level – whether for personal achievement or because you want to become a professional in this sport. The fact is, we have taught every level of fly casting and fly fishing abilities you can imagine, and we create a unique, personal program that is tailor-made to your time, needs and ambitions.
Over the many years of teaching fly fishing courses and providing fly fishing tuition, along with feedback from thousands of clients, we believe we have developed the perfect lesson plan—especially if you are booking a Spey casting lesson on your own. Instead of trying to absorb all the information, theory, techniques, and drills in a single day filled with 8 hours of intense information overload, why not split a day lesson into two half-day lessons? You'll receive the same number of instructional hours at the same cost, but the long break in between allows the information to soak in and gives your muscles a chance to relax.
We recommend two morning sessions, followed by afternoons where you can practice what you have learned on the water. You can fish one of the local beats and practice simultaneously (and sometimes your instructor will join you for guided fly fishing), or you can take a break to explore some of the local attractions.
Our experience shows that participants absorb information better and learn much faster with this approach, so keep this in mind and let us know if you’re interested in our hosted trips.
If you wish to fish a local beat during the afternoon sessions, we can arrange that with enough notice, but please note that additional fishing fees will apply.
In most cases, we can provide waders, boots, fly rods, reels, and lines for our fly fishing courses and private lessons, all at no additional charge. If you are traveling to see us for guided fly fishing or hosted trips, this could be a significant benefit that we are happy to provide. All gear is of the highest quality, featuring Sage fly rods, RIO fly lines, and Vision waders as our tackle of choice. Of course, you are welcome to bring and use your own equipment as you learn to fly fish.
